i know this is a joke but journalist Muntadhar al-Zaidi was detained and injured/tortured in detainment (”The treatment was cruel. There was beating and whipping. They broke my nose and teeth and leg. They also used electro shocks on me. I received all kinds of torture. I witnessed it with my naked eyes.”), was in prison (sentenced to 3 years), was released early, moved to Geneva and is now working on a humanitarian foundation to create free of charge children’s hospitals and orthopedic treatment centers staffed by Iraqi doctors

how fucked up is it that in our generation a good chunk of relatable comedic content is about how much we hate life, dread living, and want to die? say a joke like that in front of somebody from an older generation though and they will go on a tangent about how you shouldn’t say stuff like that and you should be happy for the life you live.
